Windchill's Guestbook

Your thoughts, prayers and well wishes are all
printed out and kept in the barn with Windchill so don't think for a moment that
you didn't make a different in the life of a quiet hero.. Thank you all so much
for caring enough to write and call, as well as those who have sent donations to
help with the cost of his care - you are all as much as part of Windchill's life
and story as we are and we are all very grateful. This guest book is part of the
legacy Windchill leaves behind and will be preserved in his memory.

To Windchill, his friends and his caregivers: I have been closely following your struggles and this ordeal all week. As you now know, people care deeply about Windchill and about your efforts to preserve his life. I have been profoundly touched by his courage and your determination to give him a chance at the life he should have known from the start. I am a breeder, exhibitor and fancier of miniature Dachshunds. Through my extensive travels to various events and membership in both state and national breed clubs, I know all too well, the suffering and injustice that humans inflict on our precious animals. Three of the seven Dachshunds that live with me came by way of rescue from their previous homes and owners. I am now blessed with healthy, happy dogs and cannot begin to imagine the depth of your despair at finding Windchill under those horrible circumstances. I sent a $200.00 donation to Equine Allies on Friday for Windchill and will be glad to send more if his expenses are outstripping what has been collected. I cannot imagine all his needs but understand that they will be significant. I do not pretend to know anything about horses but am willing to help with anything that you might need. I am a pharmacist during the day at SMDC but can certainly offer help in the off hours. I know I am a complete stranger to you but my offer is sincere. Your ongoing account of your efforts and Windchill's condition and progress on your website are so meaningful to those who are concerned. It must be extremely difficult to keep that information current, given the tremendous workload you are carrying. I will continue to keep Windchill in my thoughts and hope that you can find the strength to continue to support him in his battle for his life. Kind Regards, Kathy Johnson 218-626-2090

It goes to the tune of the 60s song "Windy" by the Association: Who's standing up, defying all odds now Who's soaking up the hugs and the love Who's cheering up a nation of horse folk Everyone knows it's Windchill And Windchill has sparkly eyes That shine as he tries and tries And Windchill has will to thrive He's quite a guy.... You don't have to respond - just know that us horse lovers here in Tennessee are keeping up with what is going on up there. Thank you so much for the steady updates and pictures on the website. I guess my biggest question is if the owner is going to pursue her rights to ownership -- I'm gathering she hasn't come to visit yet. If it was me I'd be too ashamed to show my face anywhere around if I hadn't been there by then - Keep the faith and I'm glad to hear you all are accepting help as it is offered. As a vet tech, I know first hand the struggles and frustrations a person faces when dealing with a acutely injured animal. Every step forward seems like it's followed with three steps back, but eventually those forward steps turn into leaps and before long, Windchill will be racing through the fields acting like all of this is simply a bad dream. Jeff, you might not call yourself a hero, or even see yourself that way, but to those of us watching this story from a distance, you and those who are giving up home, comfort and warmth to take care of little Windchill, you absolutely are. It would have been so much easier and less heartbreaking for you to ignore the little guy or convince yourself it wasn't your problem, but you didn't...you stepped up and did the right thing, and that, in my opinion, is something that isn't done often enough these days. I know 'thank you' isn't enough to express my gratitude for how you're taking care of Windchill, but until they invent a bigger word, thank you will have to do. Good luck and God bless you and all the folks who are working towards helping this amazing little guy get his life back.

Windchill - The news of your standing brought me to my knees to say thank you for answered prayers. I have been captivated by your story - horrified by the thought of your solitary and desperate cries across the frigid pasture, grateful for those working tirelessly to give you a second chance, and amazed at your will to live. In your short life you have seen both the best and worst of mankind, first through neglect beyond comprehension, and now through round the clock love, nurturing and compassion. Please know that you will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. May your body soon become as strong as your spirit and may you never know cold, hunger or loneliness again. To all those who have been caring for Windchill, a heartfelt thanks. If there is anything you need beyond donations and prayers, please ask.

Windchill, you remind me of a little guy who came in to my life 5 years ago. He was frostbitten and very sick. He's black, like you! Well, I loved him and cleaned his nasty little nose and kept him in a warm stall with deep shavings. I sang to him and talked to him and sat with him in his stall. After 4 days he was looking good and feeling good and he grew up to be a very handsome and smart boy! He's 16.2 now and weighs 1600 lbs. The sweetest being on earth. He's happy and full of life and knows that his Mom saved him. He thanks me every day. I'm saying prayers for you, Windchill, and I know that God has angels all around you to keep you safe and give you the strength to keep trying. With each day you will get stronger and stronger. To Jeff Tucker and Windchill’s wonderful caregivers: There’s a story about an old man on a starfish-littered beach, flinging one starfish after another back into the ocean. A young man walks by and scoffs, “Why even bother? There are too many for you to make a difference.” The old man flings another starfish into the water and says, “Made a difference to that one.” The number of starfish on the beach may rival the number of horses who are left to forage for themselves because of farm foreclosures, lack of hay, or simple neglect. But you made a difference to one of them, Windchill. Thank you for saving this little star and for being such kind, compassionate people.

hey little buddy: I know that you are going to be OK and grow up to be the biggest horse on this farm. God told me this. He is this really cool guy in the sky that supervises the earth and helps the good people help the animals. When you were resting your big old horse head on my shoulder yesterday I knew there was no other place on earth I was supposed to be except right there with you to hold up my friend Windchill. I'll come back again whenever I can. I've been running faster because I have a horse in my spirit now and my miles are for you my buddy, pretty soon you will be running your own miles. It is a truly extraordinary experience to be your friend. I love you and pray hard for you always. your aunt suzy. uncle archie loves you too.

This message is for little windchill and all his guardian angels, especially Jeff Tucker. This is a story I hope all animal owners read and if need be, learn from. Jeff, you are an inspiration to all of us that have horses, and truely love them. All animals are a gift from God. They depend on us for everything to survive, as we all have seen with Windchill's story. I would love to volunteer some time to help give you special people a break, or even just to shake your hand. From all of us fellow equine owners and lovers, you are our hero. Be Strong little windchill, your in good hands now.

Best wishes Windchill and the crew at Raindance Farms! When I was in middle school my wish came true to own a horse, but I not only received one horse but two! Our family had rescued two of nine horses near our home that were severly neglected. My mare and gelding went on to be wonderful companions to all that knew them. Their vet was also Jamie Meagher, who I still think very highly of. Keep up the great work! The world needs more people like the crew at Raindance Farms.

Shortly after I heard about Windchill's story I wrote a poem and sent it to Kathi Davis. Kathi sent it on to other concerned horse people who then printed it with the idea of posting it in local feed stores, vet offices, etc. to generate interest and donations for Windchill's care. I thought that this would be another good avenue to reach even more people to keep the movement going forward. So please print this poem, post it where it will generate the most interest and feel free to email it to those you think would be interested. The Wind's Chill The wind is cold blowing across the snow I turn; head down, so that it is my tail that takes its blow I am cold and I am hungry, why don't the humans know I need food and I need shelter before my time runs out Or angels will soon come for me of this I have no doubt I'm just a baby horse, no voice nor any clout The darkness is descending drawing closer, closer still I no longer have the strength or the desire to fight the chill I lay upon the snow growing weaker; no purpose to fulfill Why is it that they leave me here, cold, alone to die Why is it that the humans do not hear my silent cry Busy with their human stuff, they just simply pass me by I did not choose the cold pasture where I was left to die You said you'd love me always but it was just a pack of lies You left me in the snow bank ignoring my weakened cries But God alone has seen my lonely, painful plight and sends his guardian angels to do battle in my fight They struggle with the elements as I keep them in my sight Held in their arms I am lifted and gently carried away to a place of warmth and love, where other horses play Where if I'm very lucky, a place I'll get to stay Even as I'm growing stronger, my fate is not yet known I no longer fear to face it; as I'm not facing it on my own I have gifts of love and kindness that to me you've shown Do not ever forget me, no matter how long that I am here There are others out there dying, alone they face the fear No one to hold or comfort them, no one to shed a tear This farm is called safe haven, my haven it has become Even if I lose my life, God's will, it must be done Guardians angels all of you, from heaven you did come Katie Allen Dedicated to the efforts of Kathi Davis and Jeff Tucker, Safe Haven Farm / Raindance Farm for the rescue and care of "Wind Chill", age 9 months.

We are so excited to learn that WindChill is making such wonderful progress. I've shared the story with my 5 and 7 year old children which has really touched us all. They asked about him right away this morning when they woke up and I will be so happy to report the good news back to them. I commend you for taking the initiative and responsibility to help in this situation when his owner did not. Your act of kindness has prompted others to get involved...it seems the "pay it forward" mentality is in full swing. The first thing I do each morning is check your website for an update and I appreciate you taking the time to do this knowing full well you are probably exhausted. While our family has no experience working with horses (just our beloved dog!), we are animal lovers. I'm sure you have had many visitors and if visiting is still an option, I know my kids would love to take a peek at the horse that has captured the hearts of many. Sunday morning I skipped church and spent it with Windchill. I sat alone with him on a hay bale, his lovely, loving head in my lap. I took off my gloves, and laid my hands on his thin little body and we prayed. I asked God to send His healing energy into this sweet, forgiving little horse. I seriously felt the huge energy of His Spirit flow through my body, out of my hands, and into Windchill. I now know it was coming from all of your prayers. I am only a bit player in all of this: the heros are those people putting in many hours a day with Windchill. But he has touched me in places that needed work, humbling me with my ridiculous concerns. I watch him quietly and patiently submit to the ministerings of his caregivers, and so determinedly try to be a real horse again. Thank you, Jeff and Kathi, for letting me share Windchill. And thank you, my husband Gary, for doing the "real stuff" to help. Windchill's leaves me without words, something many people have tried to do for a lot of years.

I instantly said a prayer in hopes that Windchill could be the one to pull through and beat the odds of his initial diagnosis. I once had a beagle that was caught in a trap in zub zero temps for several days. She had disappeared, we looked all over and who ever had the traps set, obviously wasn't checking them like they were supposed to or she would have been released within a day. She unfortunately had two feet (opposite front/back) frozen completely solid and after a valiant fight for 10 days, ended up losing any circulation we had hoped would come back and had to be put to sleep. I was so thankful for the vet that was willing to try what she could, the rest was in God's hands. It sounds like if anyone can beat the odds, it will be Windchill with his fight and determination. I laughed outloud when I saw that once he was up, he wasn't going to lay back down and slept standing up! What a trooper! Let's all continue to give our support through prayer and donations of time and money. Thank you for keeping us updated through this site, I am checking it daily in hopes I will only be reading more positive news! God Bless everyone involved!

Yesterday you rested (earlier in the pm), and I'm sorry I missed your arising in the evening. Way to go!! It certainly felt like you were going to tell everyone it was not going "to take a week". You were saving your energy and building your determination yesterday for the grand event last night. What an amazing creature you are! As are your rescuers! Thank you Jeff and Kathy and the other who were there that night. And Kathi, I will be taking the mini-blanket back to Dan's F.B. Sat. as that is the closest time I am not working. Now that Windchill is up do you have a sense of what size he needs - 62 0r 64 like we discussed? It appears he has something for now but we all expect him to be growing, and maybe changing sizes almost weekly. I also have a supply from my own little horse herds, so let me know (people say I have my own little tack shop with just about anything a horse could ever need). Anyway let me know if their are needs here. I'll be bringing out more horse people with me on Sat. I bid you all, and Windchill warmth, rest and recovery. Betsy Molstad

WOW. What a wonderful story, well the survivor part, not the part that got Windchil into this situation. What you are doing for this guy is so great! It is great to see there are people, and it sounds like a lot that are chipping in and taking care of this little guy. I am sure you have vets and lots of people with experience helping you but if you have not given him any probiotics you should consider it. Check out this product at www.equerrys.com. It is AWESOME and will give him a jump start to get going again. You can give him the paste. Keep up the good work and I will be praying for you, Windchill and everyone helping out. God Bless You.

God bless you all. I have shared all of my life with a variety of animals, and so know the love that they can give. It was with the knowledge of death and loss that I first read "Windchill"'s story. I tried to insulate myself from the tragedy with the consoling thought that "at least he will not die alone". Now, to read of his daily success, and the perseverance of strangers... it makes me sob with relief! Thank God for all of you, and thank God for Windchill too.

Last night at midnight I was out with my horses. I was making sure if everything was o.k. since it is supposed to turn very cold again. I wanted to cry thinking of you windchill. My heart breaks when I think of how you were crying for help and you almost died without being heard. Thank god someone heard. I make sure the water in the heated trough stays warm. I give grain for extra warmth. They not only have a 3 sided shelter, they also have many trees. If I could have taken them in when it was bitter cold, I would have. I live a few miles from Raindance Farms, so I know how cold that weekend was. I truely hope you don't have to go back to your original owner. I hope the Tuckers keep you. I was unable to volunteer due to an operation I had, but I prayed for everyone involved. The rest of this message is for all who reads this site. I spent 2 years trying to get horses away from some one who was neglecting them. They never took the horses from this person, but she was made to move them to hopefully a better area. I found out from a deputy in douglas county that it is hard to get animals away from neglectful owners. We as citizen's need to take a stand and say no more. I once had 6 dogs due to abandonment. God bless all who have volunteered with windchill and all who stand up for all neglected and abused animals.

Bless everyone who saved Windchill. Jeff, you are a wonderful person. I had a Walker (sire was a Walker, dam was a QH/Morgan) for 32 years. I bought him in 1966 when he was 4 months old and he died in 1998. The most enjoyable, faithful and beautfil horse I have ever owned. He was 15 and a half hands and bright blood bay in color. I also had a classic App Mare, bang tail and very sparse mane, a great granddaughter of Joker B., App foundation sire. My mare died in 2004 at the age of 26. Raised 3 fine sons out of her, 2 by a registered QH and one by a registered App. But enough about my equines, but I do like to talk about them. I hope Windchill keeps on the road to complete recovery, he does seem to be doing very well. I will be waiting to hear if any charges will be brought against the owner or boarder of the colt. Thanks to you, Jeff, and to all the others who have helped in his rescue and recovery. Marie

Hey Jeffrey, I just saw you on Fox News. You did a great job on the interview. I was reading that you didn't like public speaking, and I assume you were probably nervous. Your interview was really good, you sounded confident and gave a lot of information. Congratulations! Windchill is so cute!

Windchill...I know you have good chances as in 1961, I found a 6 month old filly that was frozen in the snow, as you were. The only difference being that she was infested with blood worms. My Vet, gave her a very slight chance of making it, but I made her a "stall" in my recreation room and with weeks of rehab, medication, good food and LOTS of TLC, she came out fine, with no lasting effects. The amazing thing is, she looked a lot like you. When I saw you, I immediately thought of her. We named her Lucky Chance. Good luck to you little guy and I will be checking back to read future reports of your increasing good health.

Bless your heart, Jeff. You and your partner are doing God's work on Earth. Incredible how someone could leave this poor baby to fend for himself. I believe, however, that all things happen for a reason. WINDCHILL's story is only beginning. I have faith that with your dedication and resolution he will grow to be a fine, strong boy. I also feel that there is no better way to get the 'warm fuzzies' than to help an animal in need. I am sending a donation to the feed store to help with WINDCHILL's rehab. Strength, Kerry
