To Windchill, his friends and his caregivers: I have been closely following your struggles and this ordeal all week. As you now know, people care deeply about Windchill and about your efforts to preserve his life. I have been profoundly touched by his courage and your determination to give him a chance at the life he should have known from the start. I am a breeder, exhibitor and fancier of miniature Dachshunds. Through my extensive travels to various events and membership in both state and national breed clubs, I know all too well, the suffering and injustice that humans inflict on our precious animals. Three of the seven Dachshunds that live with me came by way of rescue from their previous homes and owners. I am now blessed with healthy, happy dogs and cannot begin to imagine the depth of your despair at finding Windchill under those horrible circumstances. I sent a $200.00 donation to Equine Allies on Friday for Windchill and will be glad to send more if his expenses are outstripping what has been collected. I cannot imagine all his needs but understand that they will be significant. I do not pretend to know anything about horses but am willing to help with anything that you might need. I am a pharmacist during the day at SMDC but can certainly offer help in the off hours. I know I am a complete stranger to you but my offer is sincere. Your ongoing account of your efforts and Windchill's condition and progress on your website are so meaningful to those who are concerned. It must be extremely difficult to keep that information current, given the tremendous workload you are carrying. As a vet tech, I know first hand the struggles and frustrations a person faces when dealing with a acutely injured animal. Every step forward seems like it's followed with three steps back, but eventually those forward steps turn into leaps and before long, Windchill will be racing through the fields acting like all of this is simply a bad dream. Jeff, you might not call yourself a hero, or even see yourself that way, but to those of us watching this story from a distance, you and those who are giving up home, comfort and warmth to take care of little Windchill, you absolutely are. It would have been so much easier and less heartbreaking for you to ignore the little guy or convince yourself it wasn't your problem, but you didn't...you stepped up and did the right thing, and that, in my opinion, is something that isn't done often enough these days. I know 'thank you' isn't enough to express my gratitude for how you're taking care of Windchill, but until they invent a bigger word, thank you will have to do. Good luck and God bless you and all the folks who are working towards helping this amazing little guy get his life back.

Windchill - The news of your standing brought me to my knees to say thank you for answered prayers. Windchill, you remind me of a little guy who came in to my life 5 years ago. He was frostbitten and very sick. He's black, like you! Well, I loved him and cleaned his nasty little nose and kept him in a warm stall with deep shavings. I sang to him and talked to him and sat with him in his stall. After 4 days he was looking good and feeling good and he grew up to be a very handsome and smart boy! He's 16.2 now and weighs 1600 lbs. The sweetest being on earth. He's happy and full of life and knows that his Mom saved him. He thanks me every day. I'm saying prayers for you, Windchill, and I know that God has angels all around you to keep you safe and give you the strength to keep trying. With each day you will get stronger and stronger. Shortly after I heard about Windchill's story I wrote a poem and sent it to Kathi Davis. Kathi sent it on to other concerned horse people who then printed it with the idea of posting it in local feed stores, vet offices, etc. to generate interest and donations for Windchill's care. I thought that this would be another good avenue to reach even more people to keep the movement going forward. So please print this poem, post it where it will generate the most interest and feel free to email it to those you think would be interested. Sunday morning I skipped church and spent it with Windchill. I sat alone with him on a hay bale, his lovely, loving head in my lap. I took off my gloves, and laid my hands on his thin little body and we prayed. I asked God to send His healing energy into this sweet, forgiving little horse. I seriously felt the huge energy of His Spirit flow through my body, out of my hands, and into Windchill. I now know it was coming from all of your prayers. I am only a bit player in all of this: the heros are those people putting in many hours a day with Windchill. But he has touched me in places that needed work, humbling me with my ridiculous concerns. I watch him quietly and patiently submit to the ministerings of his caregivers, and so determinedly try to be a real horse again. Thank you, Jeff and Kathi, for letting me share Windchill. When I first saw the article about Windchill, my heart just sank . . . I could only think of Barbaro and how attached I became to an animal I had never met. I instantly said a prayer in hopes that Windchill could be the one to pull through and beat the odds of his initial diagnosis. I once had a beagle that was caught in a trap in zub zero temps for several days. She had disappeared, we looked all over and who ever had the traps set, obviously wasn't checking them like they were supposed to or she would have been released within a day. She unfortunately had two feet (opposite front/back) frozen completely solid and after a valiant fight for 10 days, ended up losing any circulation we had hoped would come back and had to be put to sleep. I was so thankful for the vet that was willing to try what she could, the rest was in God's hands. It sounds like if anyone can beat the odds, it will be Windchill with his fight and determination. I laughed outloud when I saw that once he was up, he wasn't going to lay back down and slept standing up! What a trooper! Let's all continue to give our support through prayer and donations of time and money. Last night at midnight I was out with my horses. I was making sure if everything was o.k. since it is supposed to turn very cold again. I wanted to cry thinking of you windchill. My heart breaks when I think of how you were crying for help and you almost died without being heard. Thank god someone heard. I make sure the water in the heated trough stays warm. I give grain for extra warmth. They not only have a 3 sided shelter, they also have many trees. If I could have taken them in when it was bitter cold, I would have. I live a few miles from Raindance Farms, so I know how cold that weekend was. I truely hope you don't have to go back to your original owner. I hope the Tuckers keep you. I was unable to volunteer due to an operation I had, but I prayed for everyone involved. The rest of this message is for all who reads this site. I spent 2 years trying to get horses away from some one who was neglecting them. They never took the horses from this person, but she was made to move them to hopefully a better area. I found out from a deputy in douglas county that it is hard to get animals away from neglectful owners. We as citizen's need to take a stand and say no more. I once had 6 dogs due to abandonment. God bless all who have volunteered with windchill and all who stand up for all neglected and abused animals.

Bless everyone who saved Windchill. Jeff, you are a wonderful person. I had a Walker (sire was a Walker, dam was a QH/Morgan) for 32 years. I bought him in 1966 when he was 4 months old and he died in 1998. The most enjoyable, faithful and beautfil horse I have ever owned. He was 15 and a half hands and bright blood bay in color. I also had a classic App Mare, bang tail and very sparse mane, a great granddaughter of Joker B., App foundation sire. My mare died in 2004 at the age of 26. Raised 3 fine sons out of her, 2 by a registered QH and one by a registered App. But enough about my equines, but I do like to talk about them. I hope Windchill keeps on the road to complete recovery, he does seem to be doing very well. I will be waiting to hear if any charges will be brought against the owner or boarder of the colt. Windchill...I know you have good chances as in 1961, I found a 6 month old filly that was frozen in the snow, as you were. The only difference being that she was infested with blood worms. My Vet, gave her a very slight chance of making it, but I made her a "stall" in my recreation room and with weeks of rehab, medication, good food and LOTS of TLC, she came out fine, with no lasting effects. The amazing thing is, she looked a lot like you. When I saw you, I immediately thought of her. We named her Lucky Chance. We love horses, we have 2 Qtr. horses and when we heard that someone could leave you out in the cold like that, we just couldn't understand and wanted to help. Dearest Wind Chill, I have already learned, along with your 'daddy', that I must learn to spell your name correctly...see, I spelled it the right way. Now to get down to business. You are in my prayers every moment of each day and night. You've had a tough beginning to your life...but now the world knows about you! And with The Lord's help, and Jeff and Kathi and all of the loving and caring folks tending to you in your community - the world continues to wonder about you and what you might be doing each momemt of the day. We would take a minute-by-minute update if we could (and you would never get any rest)! Many of us more-or-less 2 legged creatures would not know about you had Barbaro, a wonderful horse that lives in heaven now, not brought us together while he was sick a little over a year ago. He lives in a beautiful home now called heaven, but I don't think he thinks it time for you to be living with him yet. I think he thinks your time right now should be spent on earth with the people you have come to know as loving you so much. While the whole world cheers you on---you must never give up. You have a hard road ahead of you, but God-willing, and with so many 2 and 4 legged creatures helping you...each day you are with us makes you more of a miracle. We know you are smart and very willing to work with your frens there at the 'Farm'. Keep up the good work and let your caretakers guide you. The Lord is working through them so that you may live a wonderful life---and you have so many fans from so many places supporting you every step of the way. God bless you dear little one. Try to move when you can so that your body is nourished with blood and begins to develop strength and muscles again. I know...it is sooooo cold. But, the hearts of everyone around you are warm. Soak in that warmth and take in all that love and just go for it; do your very best. And, you know Wind Chill, I know you have been and are already giving your chance at life your all. Dear Jeff/Kathi and frens: Jeff, you did a fine job on FOX. I understand all of you must be exhausted yet worrying every moment about that little 'kid'. It is obvious to all how caring you are and that you are giving 100% for Wind Chill. I think he is giving his all too. The rest is up to you know who! I tend to read and pray more than post and am an avid fan of Barbaro and the causes developed by him and his wonderful and steadfast group. Work keeps me from being as involved as I would like to be but I will have my day. Meanwhile, prayer and the power of strong thought is my greatest offering. My husband and I have tended to the very sick (both 2 and 4 legged creatures...sometimes there really is not much difference!). Some have been at the end of their lives and some at the beginning of their lives. Quality (time and care) is of the essence, and we were victorious in some cases and sometimes we could just offer support...because in the end, our God seems to have his own agenda. But, you do worry, minute by minute, and you just want to control everything to make all be right. We were granted one victory with a little boy that happened to also be a cat...and he was given a 0% chance to live. He was our love of a lifetime and he spoiled us like on one ever could (probably) again. He was a very special gift. His name was Puffy and he could fill a book with stories relating to his life. So, I say, 'go for it' - and keep up the good work. You have many friends supporting you that know you are giving erverything you can to save a wonderful life. And, Wind Chill knows it too. Hope you find more 'space' - I am sure you should be able to. You have found yourself the center of attention...good caring folk with a deep cause and that little boy, such a looker and so brave - you'll continue to be 'hit' with many messages I am sure. Dear Windchill, Litttle buddy, last summer our little dog, Sassie, was very old and sick. She was blind, deaf and could hardly get around. My daughter came by to see her and she told Sassie that she made her heart hurt. A few days later Sassie's little body gave out and she went to play in Heaven. My heart quit hurting for her and I was happy that she wasn't in pain and suffering anymore. Hey, I saw you on Fox & went right to my 'puter to check on Wind Chill. You did great on TV by the way. I'm still worried about Wind Chill internally... I just remember hearing that sometimes when people/animals are rescue from freezing water/drowning that they must be "thawed" from the inside out I think? 'Course this probably isn't the same since he wasn't under water. I'm sure all that's been addressed & it seems it's been long enough now since he was rescued. I'll probably worry till he's running! If you think you were nervous on tv you should try being stuck in a dishwasher in front of a couple million people LOL like I was on the pilot of Amer. Fun. Home Videos. I love reading your posts and I'm very glad someone like you was there for Wind Chill, I just wish the same was true in the cases of sooo many other horses/other animals who are neglected and abused every day. I'm all about animal rights/welfare do rescue myself and am too familiar with heartbreak, Wind Chill already has a happy ending because "he knows he's loved..." In case there is a God, I'll pray for you all... I certainly argue with Him enough, I'm afraid the abject cruelty I see by people of all faiths & no faith has caused me to pretty much forsake my own Christian faith. I think I've "back-slidden" to far to find my way back, but I do wish you everything fine in this world. And thank you for Wind Chill, human decency may not be as rare as I thought, at least he'll never end up in the back of a truck headed to a slaughter house in Mexico. Hang in there, you're doing a good thing. P.S. Oh, is there a heater of any type in the barn? If you thought one would help I'm sure the donations would come in, and it may be something that would really help him. They have a lot of very safe ones that are used in a lot of rescue shelters. Windchill, My husband, 3 yr old daughter and I moved to Duluth from Kansas City, Missouri a year ago and we are avid horse people. My husband's parents own 5 Morgan horses and we all ride and love them. They are more pets than anything, but that's OK. When I saw your story it made me cry - how dare people be cruel and leave you outside. These winters are so bitter and not fit for anyone - let alone a young horse - to be outside. I just want to say thank you to all those who rescue and volunteer and rush to help abandoned, neglected, and abused animals. I have seen so many people abuse their animals that it really lifts the spirits when you hear of someone working to save these animals. Almost all of my animals have been from abandonment or abusive homes.I have watched animals be starved near death and beaten and the authorities do nothing. PLEASE for the sake of these animals, contact your DAs, sherriffs' depts, humane societies and tell them this is enough. These animals are some of the best friends you could even imagine to have.

Is it any wonder that God sent Kathi and Jeff to rescue Wind Chill? I recently heard a dying man say that the most important parts of receiving forgiveness are admitting the mistake, trying to make it right, and not doing it any more. I believe that Wind Chill's former owner has done those things. God bless you Jeff and Kathi, for your loving, forgiving spirits, and Gary and I join you in this also. Helping Windchill has allowed us to meet some of the finest human and equine beings I could imagine, for which we will always be grateful. I wish you all could meet "our" litte boy, Windchill. I've always been a "dog" person (used to show them, etc.), and find the quiet spirit and wisdom in the trusting brown eyes of Wind Chill to be beyond words. I'm honored to be part of this. When I heard this story while driving and listening to Fox News a few days ago, I nearly went off the road because of tears blinding my eyes. I am a horse lover. I had the joy and privilege of owning a horse when I was child, a wonderful Morgan/Shetland mix named Cimarron. He was my joy. I’ve been horse-crazy all my life. Wind Chill’s story tore my heart out. I’m thankful for Jeff Tucker, the people at Raindance Farm and all those who dropped everything to help this little colt come along and are still by his side. Horses are our companions and helpers. I haven’t heard the story of our Wind Chill’s owners came to abandon him in such frigid, raw conditions, but I hope they pay a severe penalty such as jail time and a fine. I’m pulling for Wind Chill. I wish I could be there to give him bits of apple and carrots, but I’m sure there are plenty of people there to spoil him along. Thank you Mr. Tucker for giving Wind Chill a loving and nurturing home.

I am checking in for my daily update on Wind Chill. I have owned horses most of my life and have just come back from my barn where I met the farrier and had my horses shoes reset. I was thinking of how I take care of my horses and thinking of some of the neglected horses I see in fields and wonder why the people that own them won't take better care of them. I now wake up every morning and know there is one lucky little survivor of neglect named Wind Chill. I hope there will be many more positive stories like his in the future.
